Rather than using the Start Menu, you should consider using Classic Shell because it has several benefits. The appearance can be modified without having to mess with the registry, the submenu delay can be decreased or vice versa, sound effects can be added when accessing the Start Menu, and there are many more features.

One other benefit that could be of great assistance to you is included here. Suppose you are using Windows 10 and encounter a significant delay when accessing the Start Menu. In that case, you may consider switching to Classic Shell because it enables all Start Menus to be launched in a much shorter amount of time.
